A discussion of Open Source Commerical Software.

Here's the issue I find with Software Development today. We are forced to reinvent the wheel every few years for the next type of environment. At a company I worked for in 1998, we were doing similar things to AJAX, only with frames and tab dilimited data.

The development world has come full circle from Mainframe style computing with dumb terminals to Client/Server systems with rich clients, to the earliest CGI based webpages (Mainframe dumb-terminal again) to Rich Web Browser based clients. There are 2 main problems with this. User interfaces have been less defined because of the web. There are no menu and button standards as there are in Desktop applications. And secondly, no movement has been made in advancing user interfaces because each lurching shift in application development has caused programmers to focus on the new models for design rather than improving what was already in place.
