Are you having trouble with IIS. I have been for months with Windows XP Pro workstation. I have IIS installed for development purposes. I was getting errors connecting IIS. VS.NET would inform me that my webserver was not running ASP 1.1. Telnetting to the local port, I would get garbage characters. SPYWARE? Scaned, etc... Nothing found. I looked around the web for answers and people were complaining about Norton Internet Security. So I uninstalled. Nothing.
Netstat -b will display all open ports and their originating application or listening app. I connected via telnet and looked at netstat. Skype was running on port 80? Turned off Skype. Telnet could not connect. Dammit. There is a check box in the skype options under connection which says "Use port 80 as an alternative connection point." Uncheck this. For some damn reason they have this on by default. 2 hours of my life gone.
