Sun pulls the plug on Cobalt. Coincidentally, Scripting News is no longer served on the Qube. For the record, it was a revolutionary breakthrough product. A computer that didn't have a keyboard or a screen, but did have HTTP. It was the inspiration for Manila, it showed that real applications could interface through the Web. Too bad they sold out to Sun, that form factor with that kind of software had a big future, imho. [Scripting News]
That form factor is still available in the Shuttle pc enclosures. Nice boxes with built in video, networking and even Firewire. However, Dave is right, the web based software makes the machine. Maybe Sun would be willing to donate the code to the Open Source community.

Are there any WarHammer fans out there? I play WarHammer 40k, but am constantly frustrated by the cost of models. Pewter models I can understand, but injection molded models that cost $25-40? I don't get it.
I have been creating molds of miniatures and casting my own with Polyester Resin. The results have been fantastic. I will soon post picture and instructions for creating your own molds and casts.

I want to publicly thank my Wife, Liz for the support and faith she puts in me. Because of her, I have been able to quit my job and pursue my life's dream of creating my own company. My only wish in life is that I can repay her by becoming a huge success.

In order to help with my Collectible Card Game development, I needed to create a database. I started with FileMaker Pro since my primary machine was Mac OS X based. I recently purchased a Compaq laptop with Windows XP. This decision was purely economical. For half of the price of the Mac laptop I wanted, I got the same configuration + 0.2 Ghz, and twice as much RAM, plus an iPaq to replace my aging Palm VII. You can't beat that deal with a stick. I ported my FileMaker database to Access, and have been creating cards with it. I now have over 100 cards created and need to begin printing them for play testing.
After an entire day of testing and burning ink, I figured out how printing works in .NET. If I have some free time, I will post some sample code. Anyways, in under 20 total hours, I now have a Windows Application which allows me to sort and print any card in the Access database.
A good friend of mine is a die hard Java fan, as am I. However, there is no way I would have been able to build a comparable application in Java to access the database, provide a robust UI and print cards in under 20 hours. I readily admit that my friend is twice the programmer I am, in terms of discipline and speed, but you really can't do some of the things you can with VB in Java.
PS - For some godforsaken reason, a graphic created in Photoshop on the Mac at 72 DPI is 96 DPI on Windows. A royal pain in the ass. Thanks Mr. Bill. Arrrgh. So close, yet so far...
